Kiran Matharu joins Pre-Shot Golf
In what is a groundbreaking arrangement between player and golf psychology consultancy Pre-Shot Golf. The Pre-Shot logo will appear on Matharu’s tournament and carry bag during forthcoming events. She will work closely with Golf Psychologist Jon Finn who will implement the Pre-Shot System in to Kiran’s routine. The Yorkshire-born 25-year old began playing at the age of 12 when a trip to the driving range with her golf-mad father sparked an interest in the game.
Kiran was immediately identified as having a latent talent by the facility’s PGA pro who noticed her naturally smooth swing. She rapidly developed her golfing skills, achieving the status of number two in the world in the Under 19s category.
As her career flourished, Kiran won the English Ladies Amateur Championship in 2005 and ,as a 17-year old, went on to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup. Her age at the time made her the youngest ever player to feature in the high-profile tournament, which pits the UK’s best amateurs against their counterparts in the US.
She was also girls champion of the Sir Nick Faldo Golf series in 2004 and 2005. These events were set up to nurture future generations of golfing champions and include Rory McIlroy among their alumni. On each occasion, Kiran got the better of 125-strong fields of golfers from all across Europe.
Sir Nick Faldo was obviously impressed and has been previously quoted as saying that Kiran has what it takes to be “right up there with the best in the world”.
Kiran’s prowess on the course and status off it was also recognised when she twice won the Female Junior category at Sony’s prestigious British Asian Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
After turning professional in 2006, Kiran finished 15th in her first tournament on the Ladies European Tour and 3rd at Final Qualifying School. Away from the course, she is known to be a fan of hip-hop and RnB music and has even appeared on MTV.
Kiran is currently based at Cookridge Hall Golf club in Leeds and is competing in the Ladies European Tour (LET) Access Series in 2014.
